What a difference a year makes

Beech Drive is complete and the for sales signs are up!

The foundations and block work was started in December 2017 and now as you can see December 2018, the houses are complete and ready for their first owners.

We have battled with all weather conditions on this build, we had the awful wet winter making ground conditions extremely difficult and slower moving for our excellent ground workers, Chris Davies and his gang, and then as we came out of the other side of winter we got hit with the snow in March.

The block layers were in full swing at this point and had to pull off site, its almost impossible to lay blocks in the snow, not just from the practicality side of things but if you are to lay blocks in the snow the mortar will freeze. If this happens it will effect the integrity of the build as it will not be as weather resistant or watertight which obviously is extremely important.

We had a slight break from the elements after the snow which was nice for everyone involved in the build to get a bit of sunshine at this point, until the summer came… you would think that the super hot summer we had this year would have helped move things along. In fact, at many times over the summer it was too hot and sunny for the renderers to render the outside of our houses, the render would dry too quickly and crack, again something we do not want to happen. We had the same hold up with the painters, it was drying too quickly so we had to leave the outsides until the weather cooled down.

December 2018 and the houses are completed and all trades have now left site. All of us at Greendale Living are extremely pleased with the way these three detached houses have turned out, and we simply could not have done it without the superb team working for us on the ground as well as the help from all of our suppliers all of who we say thank you to and wish an extremely Merry Christmas and a well deserved break!

Beech Drive nearing completion

Our Beech Drive Development is now nearing completion.

Plot 1 is now fully decorated and is just awaiting the final touches in the utility room and garage with plot 2 following closely behind.

The groundworkers are working hard to make the front of these properties look fantastic. We have walls built awaiting rendering, footpaths and steps going in and its coming down now to the final decisions on which type of gravel, paving slabs and planting we feel would suit these houses the most.

We are really pleased with how the front of these houses are looking and cant wait to see the final result once site is cleared and we can finish painting the exteriors.

Beech Drive Bathrooms

Paul and Jenny went to our bathroom suppliers showroom last week in Wellington to check we were happy with our final choices for Beech Drive. The showroom is impressive, filled with every different shape, size and coloured baths unimaginable and towel rails in shapes I have never seen before. In our Beech Drive development we are looking for that high quality contemporary feel so have chosen Duravit sanitary ware with chrome waste fittings and Vado taps and shower heads.

We have planned for the main bathroom to have a spacious bath and modern wall hung basin with storage underneath while the main en-suite is having a large walk in shower with double shower head and second en-suite also has a large shower really giving these two rooms that extra quality and light spacious feel with plenty of storage for all the bathroom necessities.

The sanitary ware arrived on site this week so the plumbers are working hard to get all of the equipment in place ready for the tilers to come in. We have collected a selection of tiles from Waxman Ceramics from Italy and Spain which we would like to use in the bathrooms and downstairs cloakroom, now we just have the task of deciding which to put in which bathroom!

Beech Drive, Newton Poppleford April update

The Brick laying contractors have been pressing on throughout the snow and heavy rainfall we have had over the last few months at Beech Drive.

With only a few delays due to the weather Plots 1 & 2, with Plot 3 following closely behind, are now up at floor joist level ready for the carpenters to come in and install the trusses. Once these are in place the roofers can then come to site and get the roof tiles on. 

Once the roof is completed the houses will be rendered & painted and then the scaffolding will be dropped. Meanwhile in the office we will be busy ordering staircases and ensuring everything is in place for the plumbers and electricians to come and do the first fix works really making these houses take shape quickly.

Fingers crossed the weather continues to improve so we can continue with the progress we are making.
